90th Birthday RBL
March 21, 2012 at 6:51 PM
When the Ringwood branch of the Royal British Legion approached us and asked us if we could help them put on a 90th birthday celebration, we could hardly have known then just what a big event it would turn into.
Working on the theory that if you don’t ask you don’t get, we approached one of the world’s top military bands and asked them if they would like to be involved – Her Majesties Big Band of the Royal Marines. 7 months later following a visit by Musical Director Major Andy Thornhill the invitation to play in the garden of the London Tavern on Saturday July 21st was accepted.
The day will have a 1940’s theme and to this end Her Majesty’s Big Band of The Royal Marines will play a selection of Glen Miller style music from 4pm through until 6. They will be accompanied on the day by the Core of Drums who will perform prior to the big band.
This will be preceded by the fabulous Bournemouth based marching band Gugge 2000, a fun bunch of up to 50 talented musicians who will entertain us in their very own way.
There will be an evening of further entertainment inside provided by the 3 Belles a 1940’s vocal group who are currently touring the country with their unique show. The girls will appear on stage at 9 p.m. and will finish the whole event in style.
On the day there will be a beer festival, hog roast as well as many other attractions, details of which will be confirmed nearer the time.
This will be the first time a Royal Military Band will have played in Ringwood, there is no doubt this will be the biggest event in the area for quite some time.
We are delighted to tell you that the event has been sponsored by Ringwood / Marston’s brewery who have been very generous in their contribution to this very special occasion.
